The INI activities in Europe are focused on developing a Dutch nitrogen cascade in a European perspective. The results of this study will be presented at the Third International Nitrogen Conference and will be focused on the state of knowledge on reactive nitrogen in the Netherlands, the influence of the Netherlands on the European nitrogen situation, the effect of European policies on the Dutch cascade and innovative technique to reduce reactive nitrogen.
A perspective of an approach to move forward with respect to involving governments in the issues of nitrogen has recently been published in BioScience (Erisman, 2004).
